| The College of Business Studies was setup in 1987 with a unique and pioneering aim of imparting under-graduate management education. It was set up in consultation with the Ministry of Human Resources, under the aegis of University of Delhi. Thus started the era of under-graduate management education in India. CBS till date remains the best institution in the country in this regard, a fact that is reflected in its recognition by the Commonwealth Education Society. The college began by offering a 3-year full-time course leading to the Bachelor of Business Studies degree from the University of Delhi. It now has three other professional courses to its credit.
What sets the college apart from the rest is the constant interaction it enjoys with the industry through seminars, guest lectures and stock-simulation games. All this, coupled with the industrial projects undertaken by the students, inculcates in them an understanding of the real corporate world. The ultimate aim is to equip capable young men and women with appropriate tools to meet the rigours of modern business head on & with confidence. The college motto sums it all: "We mean Business" The BBS Programme is a three-year course, which is designed on the lines of the syllabi of premier postgraduate B - schools. Thus, BBS are able to play a complementary and at times even a substitutive role to students of the post - graduate genre in various business organizations. The curriculum is rigorous, flexible and continually enriched with the latest developments the management theory and practice. The academic calendar is based on six semesters, each six months in duration, followed by University examinations. The first four semesters lay the basic foundations and introduce the student to the core disciplines like Economics, Organizational Behaviour, Marketing and Market Research, Business Law, Human Resource Management and Financial Management. The last two semesters chiefly consist of electives offering specialisation in Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management. The College takes in a total of 120 students, including reserved categories and foreign nationals from among the thousands that apply. The selection procedure is stringent, comprising of an all India written exam based on business aptitude, reasoning, mathematical ability and English usage. The short listed candidates are further screened by way of a group discussion and interview. This process ensures that only the top 1% of the candidates who appear for the written test are finally selected. Students are encouraged to interact with the industry regarding their projects and presentations, to provide them with a practical orientation. The culmination of the class room learning is put to the final test, through an 8-10 weeks summer training exercise which the students may undertake at the end of the second or the fourth semesters, or both. All these activities provide them with a practical orientation and enhance their communication and inter personal skills, which promote the self-confidence and overall development of their personalities. |
